Autumn and spring

Even though today is a dark, dreary, rainy, winter day in Western Pennsylvania-I named this rug Autumn because she contains some autumnal colors like brown and burgandy.  Autumn contains two thrifted sheets and five thrifted t-shirts.  This one crocheted up really quickly because I already had the t-shirts cut up.  I have a big, old, ugly callus on my finger from the using the scissors-ick!

January 26th I brought  a piece of my rhododendron inside for some green for my newly thrifted vase.

Here it is on February 23rd.

And here it is today.  An unintentional force.  I've read about forcing blooms before, but I really had no idea my rhododendron would bloom indoors.  I'm tickled!

I hope you have a good day!

This is Rose

I bet you can guess where Rose got her name.  Yes-the sheets I used had pretty little roses on them.  Then I used some bright pink and red t-shirts (four of them I think) for the rest.

I didn't realize how much Rose looked like a target until I was half way done.  Ah well-I still think she's pretty.

Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
I think Rose looks like a target, but she's still pretty,
how 'bout you?

I hope your Friday is rosy!

Succulents

I've been seeing such beautiful photos of indoor succulents over on Flickr and I would love to have some too.  I tried before, but these are dead now.  Too much water, not enough water-who knows!

I'm going to try again.  I saw the idea to use cans for planters here.  I decided not to paint them, I just tied some string around them instead.  I placed some rocks on the bottom for drainage and then some potting soil and then 'seed starter dirt stuff'.   These hens and chicks are from some I have outside.  Usually for me these end up rotting from too much water or they dry up from not enough water.  I thought about just spritzing them with water every once in a while.  (I've kept the cactus alive for going on two years!)

I also brought in some of this 'succulent ground cover stuff' like I did before, but this time I'll water it probably because it's right by the sink.  This stuff is usually very hardy.  We shall see if it is this time!

Have a lovely day!

April

I named this rug 'April'.  Lots of springy colors in there, so April came to mind.  I think I probably should have added the bright pink more towards the middle, but it will have to do near the outer edge.  April contains thrifted sheets & tees and gifted fabric.

I know many of you are sooooo over winter, so think spring!
Have a nice day!

Let me introduce you to Apple

I was 'off the hook' for over a week, but now I'm back on.  This is Apple.  Why did I name 'her' Apple?  I know it's a stretch, but there's some Granny Smith apple green going on in there.  And if it's good enough for Gwyneth Paltrow, then it's good enough for me!

I'll be darned if I didn't come across this little red piano at Goodwill today.  I certainly don't need a little red piano, but it wasn't much-five bucks, and it was red.  I love red stuff! I think that the color red was 'key' in my decision to buy it.  Ha!

Have a good day!

February sunset

Photos by Hope (my daughter).
Gorgeous!

Thrifted

Yesterday-I left my house.  Yes, I did!   I had to go to the grocery store and the post office anyhow, so I decided to drive a few miles up the road to a little thrift shop-it's the one where I got my free Martha Stewart au gratin soap dish and the big santa blow mold that I gave to Dawnie. Yesterday,  I bought the above sheets and two pillowcases. (Washed, dried, and folded-thank you very much!  I don't usually fold them-ha!)  I have never seen that top print before.  I think I won't cut into the cases and just use them.  I've had the sheet print second from the top before, and I love it!  I might have a hard time cutting into that one.  Anyhow, I bought four sheets(for rugs), two pillowcases, 20 shirts (for rugs), and two doilies for $5.51.  The shirts were 10 cents a piece or 50 cents a bag.  The lady there rolled the shirts really tightly so she could fit as many as she could in the bag!  And then she told me that if I didn't have a penny, just give her $5.50.  I gave her $6.00 and just told her to keep the change.  Geesh, I was feeling a little guilty-I should have given her more!  So that's my big thrift story for the week.  I didn't even bother going in Goodwill!

Isn't this the prettiest plate?  I picked three up at Goodwill a couple weeks ago.  At first, I thought it had purple pinecones on it, but no I think they're thistle flowers.  (No not that either-I looked it up it's- Wild Clover china pattern Made by Canonsburg Pottery.)

This is another Goodwill plate.  I'm still fiddling with photos for notecards.

Yet another Goodwill plate.  Yep, still fiddling.

I haven't made a rug in over a week.  That's about to change!

Have a wonderful Friday.  :)

Happy mail

Dawn at Quilted Noodles sent me this beautiful heart as part of the 'Pay it forward' thing that we participated in.  Even though she didn't have to 'pay it' back to me, she did, and I'm glad!  I love this adorable heart, Dawn.  I know it must have taken a lot of time to make.  Thank you!

I'm just fiddling with some photos today.

I'd like to get some notecards made, so I'm trying to take some cute photos.

Happy Thursday!

Just some photos...

Mmmmm-hot chocolate!

Some cast iron cookin'!

There was a bare spot-we can't have that, now can we?  Bare no more!
Pieces of her babyhood-just documenting.

Pieces of her childhood-some more documenting.

As I come across more stuff from my kiddo's babyhood and childhood-I'm going to photograph it.  I'm not sure why, but I am!

Have a great day!

Random, everyday stuff

Random, everyday stuff is MY favorite thing to peruse on blogs and Flickr.  Here's some of mine.
I made some homemade noodles last night.  Hubby loves homemade noodles and so do I!

Here's a closeup of my awesome acrylic afghan from Goodwill.

Rag rugs on a ladder.

Sunlight streaming in-on a stack of softness.

Turquoise Goodwill donut phone-what's not to love about that?

I found this wooden peapod that I bought years ago at Goodwill-in the basement.  I love the thing, but I never knew what to do with it.  How about placing it on my dresser with some notions in it?  Sounds good to me.

When there is so much wood around, like there is in our house-pops of color are a welcome sight-to me at least.

I'm a big fan of red-haha!

The sky is incredibly blue today here in Western PA.  This photo is straight out of the camera.  I didn't even resize it.

Straight out of the camera for this one too.

I hope you have a beautiful day!
