I finished up my wool blanket this morning. (I added some wool flowers and buttons so I could call it the button flower blanket from Handmade Home.)
Overall this was a fairly easy project-the most time consuming part was hacking up the blazers and pants. I ended up finding another blazer in my pile o' stuff in the basement-so this blanket is made of 6 wool blazers and 1 pair of wool pants. I ended up making this 'throw' size-ten six inch squares down and nine six inch squares across. Then I backed it with a sheet. (Cause wool makes me itchy!)
The directions for the button flower blanket in Handmade Home suggest that if you find a wool blanket in a thrift store and even though it may have a few small stains or holes-go ahead and get it and you can cover the imperfections with the button flowers-which is just wool cut in a circle with notches cut around and a button sewn in the center. I gleened the buttons from the blazers too!
***Hint-if your corners don't meet up quite perfectly-go ahead and tie your blanket on the them-that helps disguise the goofs. I had many goofs because I rushed it-I just don't have the patience I used to!

Also-I washed the wool clothes in cold wash/cold rinse and then partially dried them on medium heat in the dryer before they were hacked up. I did the same thing to the blanket before I added the flowers and it turned out fine. There is no 'dry clean only' in this house!

BEAUTIFUL! The colors work really well together too. You need to make your own book. Plus, I showed your little bag you sent me to a friend here and she said you should sell these!
I love it Holly! I was looking the other day at my book and that was one of the projects I thought of making, but all of the wool blankets that I have seen at Goodwill were icky looking. I never thought of using blazers and pants. You are so innovative.
You are innovative!! You would have breezed through the depression! You thrifty woman, you. Can't wait until our sewing day Sunday. Looking forward to actually having lots of time to chat and EAT and maybe sew a little!! Adam is making us lunch and I think I'll look for a good dessert at Sam's on Saturday. Love your wool quilt!!
It looks fabulous. I'm so impressed for your creativity. Now I want one!
Wow - since you were able to put this project together so fast I might be thinking that I can get one done before I die:) Good job Holly, I love it and hope I can call for pointers if I get stuck!
