Beach blanket to go-done!

One project down, 32 to go-for The Handmade Home Project.

This one was "beach blanket to go". I used "vintage" sheets on the front and a waffle weave shower curtain on the back. I made my own seam binding with material I've had. To make the seam binding I tore 5" strips and ironed each side to the middle-folded kind of like a kleenex would be. My machine was being a very bad boy and I almost threw him out the window. But I adjusted his settings and he started to behave.

All in all this was a pretty easy project. The only thing is-is when I start doing a big project it seems to tear the entire house up. That's my biggest frustration. I may make more later-but I'm done for right now.

I think for all the trouble I was having with my sewing machine, beach blanket to go turned out pretty!

Holly you are too awesome! One day, and you even went to a wedding, and you were able to finish that already. I love it, but what don't i love that you make? I'm going to keep an eye out some more vintage sheets maybe i can attmpt to make my own if I can get my sewing machine tension to loosen up. Maybe you can start a tutorial business for people like me or your own little etsy shop.

Ps. I'll be watching for a beach house or something. now that you have a blanket you need a place to use it, right?

That's right Jessie.

Can't you just see us all lounging on our beach blankets to go!

That's just beautiful Holly, I'm amazed you have it done already. I haven't finished reading the book yet. I will have to make one myself soon. No doubt you will see it on my blog sometime within the next 2 years.

Oh, you make vintage stuff look awesome!!!! Maybe there is a sewing machine disease - mine is acting up too, however, it is probably more the person operating it than the actual machine.

Love love love this blanket!

Thanks Melissa and Rhonda.

Things would have gone much smoother if I hadn't had sewing machine problems. I got out my book and adjusted the tensions. Then I adjusted the tension on my bobbin-did you know there's a little screw on the metal case and you can turn it with your thumbnail. I guess you should adjust it so you can pull your thread through not too easily and not too hard, kinda in the middle. Hope someone knows what I mean. It seemed to help my bottom stitches not to be all loose and boogered.

Holly I told you before and I'll tell you again you need to start an Etsy shop. Did you know a young teenage boy started the company. I saw it and other youngsters who started companies in a Money Mag. BTW...I know a place in Florida where we could get a beach house for really cheap...well it's about 20min from the beach.

No-I didn't know that Kimmie.

Talk with Jessie about the beach house.

I'll try to get Hoper to commit to a time she wants her graduation party!
