Blast from the past-part 2-baby doll edition

It's apparent from going through these old photos that I brought home from my mom's to scan-that I loved dolls.

It seems I'm always holding one.  Hello Donald Duck!

Gosh-I love this photo.  I love the look on my face, the tinsel on the tree, and the wrapping on the packages!

Oh, look!-a real live baby doll!  That's my sister Jodie.

Here's another real live baby doll.  Hello Kimmie, you little peanut you!

Awwwww-Dressy Bessy!  You were so special-you helped teach all three of us to buckle, button, zip and tie.  Too bad I lost you in high school when we were suppose to bring in a favorite doll for home ec.  I'm sorry!!!

Oh Crissy, how I loved you!  You were my favorite!

You served me tea and cookies.  (I think that's probably why I loved you the best.  It helps that you were so beautiful!)  I wonder where you are now.  Probably at the bottom of a landfill somewhere.   Sorry!!!
What am I saying???  This is my very favorite baby doll of all-Baby Hope, of course!!!

Have a good day, baby!

Blast from the past-part 1

Sunday, I brought hundreds of old pictures home from my Mom's.  I've been wanting to scan them and I finally started to do it.  I thought I'd share some on here.

First  up-see in the lower right hand corner-it's a photo of our cat sleeping in a play stroller.  But what caught my eye was in the background.  It was my sister, Kimmie's-Tomy Snappy Shots toy camera.  A couple of years ago I was thinking about how much I loved that camera and how when you wet the sponge inside the camera and then put in the fake polaroids-they come out as fake photos when they get wet.  Soooo-I bought one from Ebay-my first purchase from Ebay.  Through the wonder of searching google-I found the name of it, because I had no idea.  And through the wonder of Ebay-I found one.  I think I paid about 10 dollars total.  I was a little disappointed with my purchase though-my fake polaroids have to be soaking wet for the fake photo to appear.  Oh, well-it's all good!

I came across this photo of my sister Jodie and I lying on the bed-of course the sheets caught my eye.  I checked and yep-I have those!

Another photo of Jodie, Kim, and me-again, the sheets catch my eye.  Yep-have those too!  I love you Goodwill!

My dad's employer (from many years ago) owned a hot air balloon.  Dad made arrangements twice for us to go up in it.

I'm the one in the white pants, and Kim and Jodie are standing on the left.

Balloon's up!  I think we must be in the basket.

Apparently Mom sent the camera with us, because here's our arial view.  See the balloon's shadow at the bottom.  I wish we had pictures of ourselves in the balloon, but unfortunately we do not.

Here we are-three sisters at the beach.  It's me, Kimmie, and Jodie.  We were pretty cute if I do say so myself!

I hope you are having a good day!

Ruler trim

After I finished laying my new vinyl floor,  I needed a piece of trim to cover where my different floorings meet.  I thought to myself, surely there's a way for me to get out of going to a hardware store.  I know!-who dreads going to the hardware store?  Well, that would be me.  So, I started looking around the house for a solution-and I found one in the form of a wooden ruler.  Only I needed 30 inches not 12, so I did need to stop in town to see if I could find more.  The dollar store was out, but Rite Aid had them for a dollar a piece.  I guess I don't mind stopping at drug stores.  :)  I went ahead and got three, so they would match up.

I opened my junk jar and found screws.

I gave them 2 coats of some water based polyurethane I had, last night.  I cut off two of them at 11 inches, because I didn't want to deal with the large hole there at the end.  The other ruler was cut at around the 8 inch mark.

I am The Hackmaster!

I just used the built in holes and screwed them right to the floor.  I did most of this-this morning, while talking on the phone with my sister.

Tada!-floor trim made from rulers.

I'll never have to look for a ruler again!

Have a lovely weekend, everybody!

Fathers and robins

I couldn't let Father's Day go without honoring the wonderful fathers in my life!
1.  My dad as a cute little boy and then as a cute man and poppy.  (This was taken yesterday!)
2.  This is my late father-in-law, my Hopey, Minnie, and Hubby.  Although he didn't say anything, I know yesterday was hard for Larry because his father is no longer with us.
3.  I can't forget my brother-out-law, Davey!  Here he is with his beautiful fam last summer.
I snuck some pics of 'my' baby robins yesterday.  I better go try to get some more pics today, because like our children-it's not long till they leave the nest!

Have a great day!

New floor

Friday morning I started laying vinyl tiles (which came right to my door
on Thursday, all 110 pounds-free shipping) on my dining room floor.
I started in a corner, as opposed to starting in the center of the room-as the directions
say you are to do.  I'm such a rebel.  I'd move a piece of furniture away from the
wall-tile that spot, and then carefully move that piece back-and so on and
so on and so on.  I completed the tiling last evening.   I finished cleaning
up the joint this morning and then I took some photos, so I can remember
what it looks like clean-since it won't be that way for long.

::1st row-I worked my way across the far wall.
::2nd row-Heading towards the center of the room and also my
cutting tool of choice-which was my rotary fabric cutter.  I'm sure I
ruined the blade, but I have more.
::3rd row-Working my way to the end of the room.
::4th row-The last tile, my pile of garbage, and the finished product.

All done!

The best parts are-I did it myself! and it cost approximately $90.00!
and it's clean! and it will be easy TO clean! and I did it myself! and it cost
 90 bucks! and it's clean!

Have a good weekend everybody.

Outside

::I thought these daisies looked lovely beside this old piece of yellow equipment.

::A good year for blueberries, I think.

::Wild strawberry-you know, last year was the first time I'd ever seen a wild strawberry.

::Daisy next to a yellow raspberry.

::Menacing sky.  (It looked worse in real life.)

::Volunteer petunia-all my petunias are volunteer this year.

::Marigolds I started from seed-they really took off when they were planted outside.

::Cattail as tomato stake-hey it might work!

::I found a robin's nest in my rhododendron bush.  It's pretty high, so I can't see in-but I did see some wee beaks sticking out two days ago.

::Mama and Papa were not happy when I got near their babies.

Hope you have a good day.  :)

Demolition

~Intentional demolition~

I ripped up my dining room carpet.  What a mess!  But what can be expected after nearly 23 years of abuse???  It was a lot of hard work-moving all my furniture under arrest (that's all my furniture lined up against the walls), then cutting and pulling the carpet and padding, sweeping, pulling staples, sweeping, lifting those carpet tack strips, and sweeping.  I haven't worked that hard in a long time.  Now I just have to wait for my vinyl tile to arrive at my door (Sears-free shipping)-and yes, I'm laying it myself.

All done-for now.
 ~Unintentional demolition~
My window frame fell off the wall!  This happened Thursday afternoon.  Crash, bam, boom!  I don't know why-it's been hanging there for years!  The good news is-the window is not broken and my cabinet didn't break.  Only a few pieces of milk glass from Goodwill broke and it will be easy to find more.

Hopefully demolition in my home is done for now!

Have a nice day.  :)

In my little kitchen

I made some peach cobbler.  It was-okay.  I halved a recipe that I had already tinkered with, soooooo-I think I messed something up.  Oh, well-Hubster ate it!

I pulled some radishes from my little garden-they are a little small.  I'll wait a couple of days before I pick more.

Here's The Spoon!
Splish splash, he was taking a bath!

Here's The Spoon again.  This time he was just hanging with his peeps.

I hope you have a nice day!

I grew some greens!

I grew some greens and I liked it!  I cut them from right outside my basement door, rinsed them very thoroughly and then drained them on a tea towel.  I found a baby slug on the tea towel.  Because I'm not mad at my husband today,  I tossed the baby slug in the trash.  I mixed the greens with some mayo, a splash of vinegar, a little sugar and salt and pepper, I tasted it and then gave the rest to hubby to eat with his supper.  It tasted a tiny bit bitter to me-but he ate it up.

Speaking of greens-I ate my first beet green on Saturday.  No, not from my garden-at Wendy's, of all places.  My mom asked me to lunch and then we were going to visit a friend.  I wanted to try Wendy's Berry Almond Chicken Salad because I had heard good things about it on the internets.  (It was good, by the way.)  Anyhow-this salad has different greens in it and I noticed one that had red veins in it (like the one above from my garden).  So I ate it and I gasped and said to my mom, "Oh my gosh, that must have been a beet green."  And she said, "Oh yeah, why do you say that?"   I said, "It tasted just like a beet!"  It's sad to say, but I am not an experienced greens eater and I had to go home and check and make sure that's what a beet green looked like, and lo and behold-it was!

I hope you have a great day-and go eat some greens!

A corny card

Today was my cousin Melsie's son's graduation party and of course-I didn't have a graduation card and of course-I didn't feel like going in town to get one.  So I improvised.

I took one of the note cards I had printed from my photos and added some corniness (it's a word-I looked it up) to it.  (I started out using a ball point pen-that was a bad idea because it wouldn't write right-I had to go over it with a felt tip.)

You know those little name cards that come with most graduation annoucements?  Well Ryan's was about to go into the trash (sorry-I don't keep these!), then I thought I might as well use it in his card, so I glued it on-Congratulations, Ryan P. XXXX.  Love, Larry, Holly, and Hope.  Short and sweet and to the point!

*AHEM~Name has been concealed to protect the identity of the graduate from....um....The Boogeyman!*

Hello, hello

Well, hello Beautiful!  Yes-I'm talking to you-the one in red.  Aren't you gorgeous, Dawling!

Our black, ugly duckling, cordless, answering machine phone was on it's last leg.  It wouldn't dial 3 for the last year or so (which meant I had to go upstairs and get the other cordless) and I swear nearly everybody I want to call has a 3 in their number.  Also, it wouldn't hang up unless it was put on the receiver or hold a charge long.  Sooooo- I was googling red retro phones and came across this red beauty.  No answering machine, no caller id, no cordless-but worth the 38 bucks I spent on her.  Cause, ain't she just sooooooo pretty?  And my sister said I sounded louder and clearer.  And the cord reaches the computer.  And she has an old fashioned ring-brrriiinngggg, brrriinngggg.  And ain't she just sooooooo pretty?   I'll figure out what to do about the no answering machine, no caller id, no cordless someday.

~And just wait until I show you my new ice cream maker!~

PS-It's apparent that I'm no minimalist!

I hope you all have a fabulous Friday.

Bye, bye!

Chili~when it's not chilly

Something I love about our air conditioner is that we can eat hot foods in the summer without breaking into a sweat.

That means I can open a jar of my dad's chili, heat it (my most favorite way to cook), and then serve it to Hubby without the guilt of making the poor man sweat after coming home from a day's work.

I can also turn on the oven (for a wee bit) to make some cornbread for that chili-and not die from heat exhaustion!

~Added bonus (Maybe!?!? I guess it depends on who you ask!)-Holly is in a good enough mood to play with her food and her favorite spoon and turn on her camera and snap a few pics.~

I hope you all have a great day!
